What is a YouTube banner?
A YouTube banner, also called channel art, is the wide image that runs across the top of a channel page. It is one of the first branding surfaces a visitor sees before a single video loads.
The catch is that YouTube does not show the same banner on every screen. The same file gets stretched, sliced, and cropped differently depending on whether someone is on a phone, a laptop, or a TV. A banner that looks finished on desktop can lose its logo entirely on mobile if it was not built for the crop.
YouTube banner size and safe area for 2026
Upload your banner at 2560 × 1440 px. Keep your channel name, logo, and any text inside the centered 1546 × 423 px safe area.
| Spec | Size |
|---|---|
| Full canvas | 2560 × 1440 px |
| Safe area | 1546 × 423 px |
| Minimum accepted size | 2048 × 1152 px |
| Max file size | 6 MB |
| Accepted formats | JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP |
The full canvas only shows in full on a TV. Desktop shows a wide horizontal slice through the middle. Mobile crops the tightest of all, close to the safe area itself. Design for the full 2560 × 1440 canvas so the banner has something to show on a big screen, but treat the 1546 × 423 box as the only space you can rely on.

Where the safe area sits, and what to avoid
The safe area is centered horizontally and vertically inside the full canvas. It is the place for your channel name, handle, logo, upload schedule, or one short tagline.
- The channel avatar can cover the lower-left area on desktop, so keep critical text away from that corner.
- Small text near the safe-area edges may survive on desktop but feel cramped on mobile. Keep your channel name and handle closer to center.
- Use one message, not a mission statement. A banner is for instant recognition, not paragraph copy.
YouTube banner examples: full image vs. what actually shows
Here are two real banners generated from a short prompt and reference images, shown first as the full upload canvas and then as the cropped channel-page view.
Channel "MinionPixie"
@TheMinionPixie
gaming channel banner, neon energy, graffiti vector graphics cartoon, "Retro Games"See the live example on YouTube: youtube.com/@MinionPixie.
Channel StonksWatch
@StonksWatch
Daily Trading News and Market Updates, Bold EnergySee the live example on YouTube: youtube.com/@stonkswatch.
Two different channels, two different moods, same compact input. That is the whole point: no manual layout pass, no separate safe-area check afterward.
How to make a YouTube banner in NewScene
Head to Create Image and select the YouTube Banner style. Add your channel name, your handle, and a short line about your content, or the exact text you want included. If you have a logo, photo, or other brand reference, add that too so the result looks like your channel instead of a generic template.
Click generate and you will get multiple output options to choose from. Pick the one that reads clearest at a glance, download it, and upload it straight into YouTube Studio.
What to put in your prompt
You only need three things:
Channel "[Your Channel Name]"
@[YourHandle]
[One line about your content], [a style or mood - energetic, minimal, retro, bold, etc.]Your prompt just needs three things: who you are, your handle, and what the channel is about. NewScene handles the canvas and crop math.
Anything more specific, like an exact tagline, a color you want emphasized, or a prop that matters to your channel, can go on the end of that third line.
How to upload your YouTube banner
Once your banner is downloaded, head to YouTube and open your account menu. Click your avatar, then choose View Your Channel.
On your channel page, click Customize Channel. This opens the Channel customization page. Under Banner, click Change, then select the banner image you produced in NewScene.
YouTube opens the Customize banner art preview so you can see the desktop and mobile crop zones. Line the image up with the center. Because NewScene already builds the banner around the safe area, it should be ready to go in seconds with no manual adjustments. Click Publish, and your channel is ready with its new banner.
